Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra in his speech at the 70th Republic Day celebrations on January 26th, 2019 at the Indira Gandhi Park here called upon the people to keep aside individual benefits and work towards the benefit of the state.

Referring to the objections raised by the people on the construction of the Greenfield airport at Hollongi, he said, “I appeal to the people to think and act in the larger interest of the state, discarding individual benefits and allow the developmental projects to take off without raising any objections.”

A colourful cultural programme displaying the cultural diversity of Arunachal Pradesh was presented on the occasion.

Step towards development

Unfurling the national flag, Mishra said, “The Union Finance Ministry has cleared the proposal for the airport at Hollongi at an estimated cost of Rs 1,043 crore. It is a big step for the state towards development and we must understand that after a lot of persuasion by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the council of ministers the Centre agreed to provide – despite there being no such provision – land compensation as a special case for the state.”

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the airport in the coming month, February.
