Guwahati: State’s Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Friday authorised the Kamrup metro district deputy commissioner to allow restricted movement of persons of containment zones for a limited period on Saturday and Sunday for facilitating purchase of essential goods.
The Chief Secretary said, “While allowing such movement it shall be ensured that no crowding of any market place is allowed to occur and all protocols for COVID-19 as issued by the health department is maintained without fail.”
The statement was issued following the state’s health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s announcement of ‘total lockdown’ to be in force from Sunday midnight for across the Kamrup metro district jurisdictions.
According to Minister Sarma, the Guwahati metro district will remain in total lockdown from Sunday midnight till July 12, which is for 14 days. Moreover, curfew has also been imposed from 7 pm to 7 am till further order from Friday itself. Hence, taking cognizance of the total lockdown, the health minister appealed the city residents to collect essential commodities till Sunday.
Owing to the detection of more Covid-19 cases, 27 additional areas in Kamrup (Metro) district have been tagged as containment zones by the district administration.
