Guwahati: The river cruise of the South Coast Restaurant near Fancy Bazar capsized after the rise in the water level of the Brahmaputra River for the past few weeks.
As per reports, the cruise has been closed for the past two years. One Sunit Beria was running the restaurant on a ship under lease from the Inland Water Transport Department.
In the meanwhile, officials of the Inland Water Transport Department on Friday visited the site for a spot inspection.
Speaking to the media, the inspecting official of the Inland Water Transport Department said, “It is yet not known how the cruise capsized. As per the preliminary investigation, it was found that there is no hole inside the ship. But we suspect that the cruise might have turned upside down due to probable wreckage. We never noticed such incidents earlier.”
The official further mentioned that the water level of Brahmaputra has been declining for the last three days, thus, the department will make all the arrangements for lifting the river cruise, said the official.
