Road blockade in Golaghat protesting against shooting of a ex-BSF jawan

Golaghat, December 6: The locals of Dergaon today took to the streets and blocked the roads protesting against the shooting of a man yesterday amidst the first phase of the Panchayat polls.

The irked locals blocked the roads and shouted slogans like ‘Assam Police go back’.

On Wednesday, Gyanendra Rajkhowa, an ex-BSF jawan had created a ruckus outside the No 1 Habiyal, Dergaon Ganakpukhuri polling station. The security personnel deployed at the area resorted to firing to scare Rajkhowa. He was shot on his leg.

Although he was admitted to the Golaghat’s Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the Golghat Additional Superintendent of Police, Partha Pratim Saikia.

“The Assam police killed a man here in Khumtai yesterday. It is very unfortunate that the local MLA Mrinal Saikia is yet to reach the spot to intervene the matter. We in no way can accept police hooliganism here. We demand immediate arrest of Partha Pratim Saikia,” said an irked local.

Later a team of district administration authorities and police reached the spot and calmed the situation.

In the meantime the family members of Rajkhowa haved filed an FIR with the police demanding arrested of the DSP.
