An armed robber was killed on November 4th, 2019 after he was allegedly shot by the security personnel at Cachar Paper Mill. The deceased has been identified as Monir Uddin. He hailed from Dakhin Badarpur.
As per reports, a seven-member gang of armed robbers trespassed the closed paper mill yesterday night. The gang attempted to attack the on-duty security personnel. The attempted robbery ended in fatal gunfire as one of the robbers was shot dead by security personnel. The other gang members purportedly fled from the spot as soon as their accomplice was killed.
A police team and the Central Reserve Police Force have reached the spot and are interrogating the matter. On being intimated, Algapur legislator Haji Nizam Uddin Choudhury also reached to take stock of the matter.
It may be mentioned here that Cachar Paper Mill is the only major industry in south Assam’s Barak Valley. The paper mill, set up in 1988 at Panchgram around 24 kilometers from Silchar suspended production in 2015. After years of defunct, the state government recently announced that the Cachar paper mill will start its operations very soon.
