The Rongali Bihu revelry turned tragic note here with the drowning of youth in the Brahmaputra on April 14th, 2019. The youth has been identified as Probal Hazarika.

Hazarika along with his father had gone to the river for bathing. He is a student of Class 12 at the Shrimanta Shankar Academy in Guwahati. He hails from Mazgaon. His father has been rescued. A search operation has been launched to trace Hazarika.

In Assam, Bohag Bihu is being celebrated across the state with traditional fervour and enthusiasm. Today, the first day of celebration is known as the Goru or Cow Bihu. Goru Bihu is dedicated to cattle and livestock.

People take their cattle to rivers, ponds and other water bodies and give them a ceremonial bath rubbing them with turmeric paste and other herbs.
