Rs 1 lakh crore sanctioned for construction of new roads in Assam

Guwahati, December 30: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari who was on a visit to Assam on Friday have announced Rs 1 lakh crore for construction of new roads in the state.

A total of Rs 2.5 lakh crore was announced as a whole for construction of new NE roads, out of which Rs 25,000 crore will be used for Arunachal Pradesh is, Rs 22,000 crore for Manipur, Rs 17,000 crore for Sikkim and Rs 8,000 crore for Meghalaya.

This is for the first time that such a record breaking amount of funds have been announced for the first time for road construction in Northeast.

Reports said that inorder to keep a tab on the construction activities of the roads review meetings will be conducted every three months.

The Union Minister who was here in Assam to lay the foundation stone for protection works of Majuli Island from floods further stated that altogether around 14,000 km of roads will be constructed.

While talking about the construction of ring road in Assam the Minister said that the constructions will be started soon in Guwahati right after land acquisition provided by the State.
