    RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat unveils a book ‘Citizenship Debate over NRC and CAA, Assam and Politics of History’

    Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday attended a book release function of a book namely ‘Citizenship Debate Over NRC and CAA, Assam and Politics of History’ inaugurated by Sarsangcharak Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Mohan Bhagwat at a programme held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here in Guwahati.

    Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma said that Indian democracy which has the reputation of being the largest in the world with the democratic tenets deeply ingrained in it, has the scope of airing one’s alternative voice. In this backdrop, Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta has written this book which is very well researched and thought-provoking.

    Congratulating the author in writing the book, CM Sarma said that the book based on facts and figures, gave an analytical treatment to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). He also said that the presence of Mohan Bhagwat in Guwahati to inaugurate the book is a matter of pride and prestige.

    Mohan Bhagwat while speaking on the occasion congratulated Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta on authoring a book with greater significance and said that the book is a result of the author’s immense hard work which brought to light several facts. The author put forward a factual picture for which the book becomes a must-read one. He also said that India is a unique country and in spite of diversities people belonging to different backgrounds have been living in perfect harmony for 4500 years. Though, after partition India has been divided, still, it remains a moral duty of the country to be with its people in case of any problem. He also said that secularism, socialism and democracy are very much inherent to India as this country gives the virtues of these concepts to other parts of the globe. He also said that CAA and the NRC have nothing to do with the Hindu-Muslim divide and communal narrative. Thanking the author for writing the book, he said that the book will provide insight to CAA and NRC to make them more comprehensible by cross-section of the society.

    Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, author, Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta gave an overview of the book. Speaker Assam Legislative Biswajit Daimary, several ministers, MLAs and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
