Guwhati: The Metropolitan Magistrate Court dismissed the plea for bail to New Delhi-based Kashmiri businessman Sahil Zaroo, who was arrested for raping and threatening a girl from Northeast India.
The court dismissed his bail application considering the nature of the accusation, reasonable apprehension of tampering of the witness, gravity of the charge and likelihood of the offence being repeated, among other reasons.
It also mentioned the possibility of the accused absconding of given bail, considering that he is a flight risk and had to be nabbed from Kashmir.
Earlier on August 16, the accused allegedly drugged the victim and raped her after a party, when she lost consciousness.
The survivor later lodged a complaint with the cops against Sahil Zaroo on August 18, two days after the incident under sections 376 and 328 of the Indian Penal Code.
The victim also alleged that Zaroo offered her money and kept trying to persuade her to take the case back. The accused also tried contacting her through WhatsApp and threatened to send cops for narcotic tests and put her behind bars, when she filed the FIR.
Reportedly, Sahil had fled the city after committing the crime and was nabbed by Delhi police in record 24 hours after the FIR was lodged on August 18.
In the past, Sahil Zaroo was involved in the famous NDPS case of Rahul Mahajan in 2006. He was also questioned in the NIA case related to “Hawala Money” in connection with DSP Davinder Singh, J&K Police.
Another case was registered against Zaroo for slapping Bollywood actress Sonal Chauhan of ‘Jannat’ movie fame in 2008.
