The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Monday sealed a Samsung electronics shop located near the Rajdhani Masjid in Guwahati for allegedly selling stale groceries and poultry products without any permission during the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
An order by the GMC said that the under the guidance and supervision of Devajyot Hazarika, Commissioner of GMC the Samsung Smart Plaza, situated near Rajdhani Masjid was sealed. This shop was “illegally” selling stale groceries and poultry products from the premise.
The order copy said that after receiving public complaint with photographic evidence, the GMC raided the aforesaid trade premise on Monday and found them selling stale vegetables and poultry products in large quantities.
They were found disposing stale leashes and meats near Barak Residency, apart from selling and storing stale groceries illegally. The electronic shop was running without obtaining a trade licence for both vegetables and meat.
The shop was sealed by the team of Guwahati Municipal Corporation headed by Dwijen Singh, Additional Commissioner, GMC in presence of ACP, Dispur and Media Persons.
The locals have alleged that the shop was taking advantage of the lockdown to make some money of the meat and groceries.
