Sarbananda Sonowal will be the next Chief Minister? Narendra Singh Tomar hints
Guwahati: Almost killing the ‘mystery’ of who will become the chief minister of Assam if BJP comes to power again, union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that there was no need to announce a chief ministerial candidate when Sarbananda Sonowal is already there.
Tomar told the media that since Sonowal has been the chief minister of the state for the last five years, the speculations were ‘irrelevant’.
“When there is already a chief minister then what’s there to announce?” he said.
Amidst the state assembly polls, BJP’s decision not to name incumbent chief minister Sonowal as the party candidate for the top post has triggered a wave of speculation that the saffron party might be thinking of rewarding Himanta Biswa Sarma if it returns to power in Assam.
Both Sonowal and Sarma said the decision would be taken by Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah. Dismissing the speculations, Sonowal recently said it was just a ‘media creation’ and his only aim is to bring back a BJP government in Assam and he works as a committed party
