Guwahati: A Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) leader from Behali area in state’s Biswanath district was arrested on Monday for allegedly posting a derogatory comment against state’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Biswanath Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh said the accused identified as one Anil Baniya has posted an offensive statement on his Facebook wall. He was arrested from his residence at Behali’s Rongsali area on Monday morning.
Police sources said, “After the health minister informed that he had undergone a surgery, Baniya had posted that he wished for the death of the minister.”
Sarma on Sunday was diagnosed with kidney stone.
Medical practitioners at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) detected a kidney stone after Sarma had complained of extreme pain in stomach.
Sarma, who has been highly active in managing the COVID-19 situation in the state, on Sunday tweeted, “After an episode of extreme pain in the stomach, doctors in GMCH have detected a kidney stone measuring 3.76 mm through Ultrasonography. Taking saline and injections to overcome the pain. Will take rest for the day.”
