Seamless coordination must for better policing in Northeast: Kiren Rijiju

Itanagar, September 14: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said that seamless coordination and intelligence sharing among the security forces in the Northeastern states is a must to ensure security of the region.

Rijiju said that the security scenario of the Northeast has improved tremendously in the last four and half years.

“If you see the figures, the casualties, the incidents, it has come down quite heavily,” he said, while peaking at the inaugural session of the two-day 25th Conference of DGPs, IGPs and heads of Central Police Organisations (CPOs) of Northeastern region at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre.

He also said that the police force of the Northeast will be imparted specialized training in counter-insurgency operations at the Assam Rifles Academy at Diphu in Karbi Anglong. Rijiju also mentioned that the National Investigating Agency has been conducting training modules for the Northeast police force for investigating into terror-related cases.

“Maintaining coordination between the State police and the Central agencies, including Central armed forces and intelligence agencies is very crucial as the Northeastern region has 98 per cent international borders.The Northeast is a complex region and policing here is not the same as compared with other parts of the country,” he said.

Rijiju also mentioned that tactful handling by the security forces is the need of the hour in dealing with inter-State boundary disputes between Assam and Arunachal, Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
