Section 144 clamped in Shillong; Shops and Markets to remain close on Sundays

A large number of shops, roadside markets, and vendors in different areas across the city of Shillong are operating on Sundays

Guwahati: To restrict the spread of Coronavirus, the East Khasi Hills district administration in neighbouring state Meghalaya prohibits the opening of shops, establishments and markets, both in fixed premises or otherwise in Shillong agglomeration from Sunday onwards.

It has been reported that a large number of shops, roadside markets, and vendors in different areas across the city of Shillong are operating on Sundays, which attract sizeable crowds/public at a single point.

Moreover, the number of cases across the state is also increasing and in order to prevent a further surge in COVID-19 cases in the district, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills hereby clamped section 144 CrPC along with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020.

Notably, after the state of Assam, it is the East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya that has imposed some restrictions amid the COVID 19 scare in the state.
