Guwahati: The Bokakhat sub-divisional magistrate on Monday imposed section 144 CrPC in the animal inhabited areas of the Kaziranga National Park in the midst of the Monsoon and Flood season.
The decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of the animals, as there had been past incidents where animals were killed by speedy vehicles during migration during flood season.
Notably, every year, during the monsoon and flood season, most of the animal inhabited areas of the Kaziranga National Park get inundated and the animals come out of the national park and take shelter at a high place or migrated to the adjoining areas crossing the National Highway 37.
During the prohibition period, maximum speed limit of vehicles in the scheduled stretch of the NH 37 along the Kaziranga National Park is 40 km per hour. No vehicle is allowed to ply beyond the speed limit.
Parking of heavy vehicles in front of Dhaba/Restaurant/Hotel etc situated along the schedule area is not allowed.
Violation of the order will invite prosecution under section 188 Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, OC Bokakhat has been directed to take immediate necessary action if any violation is noticed.
Note: Stretch of NH 37 starting Panbari animal corridor to district /sub-divisional western boundary near Haldibari.
