    Self-Styled Godman Held For Attempted Rape In Guwahati

    Guwahati:Noonmati Police on August 1st, 2019 held a self-styled Godman for allegedly attempting to rape a woman in the city’s Patharquary area.

    The arrestee, Jurul Haque alias Ronga Baba frequently changed his name to attract followers on the pretext of shooing away evils and curing diseases, police said. Interestingly, the accused identified himself as a Muslim man among Muslims and as a Hindu in the Hindu majority areas.

    As alleged by the complainant, a few days ago, Haque forged a close relationship with the victim’s family in Patharquary on the pretext of curing diseases. Ronga Baba allegedly attempted to outrage the modesty of the woman in order to cure her diseases.

    Further police investigation is underway.
