Guwahati: Senior IPS officer Anurag Tankha (Assam cadre) passed away on Monday here after a prolonged battle with cancer.
He was on deputation to the Bureau of Police Research and Development as Inspector General (IG).
It is to be noted that Anurag Tankha (a 1995 batch officer) was on deputation to National Investigation Agency (NIA) as IG till 2017.
Later, on request of the Assam Government to the Government of India over the shortage of senior police officers in the cadre, the centre relieved Anurag Tankha from his charge as IG in NIA.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanat Biswa Sarma condoled the sudden death of the senior police officer. Taking to his official Twitter handle, CM Sarma said, “I’m deeply saddened by the demise of distinguished senior IPS officer Anurag Tankha (Assam cadre) after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was on deputation to Bureau of Police Research and Development as IG. My prayers for his moksha and condolences to his family members.”
