Guwahati: A dead body was found at Baihata Chariali on the outskirts of Guwahati in Assam’s Kamrup district, which was murdered by the accused, identified as Hitesh Das, official informed on Friday.

As per sources, Das hails from Nilpur in the Nalbari district and was a Rapido driver by profession.

The deceased was identified as Debnath Bhuyan. Based on the confession of the accused, the police team was able to locate the body, who had been arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder.

A sensational case of alleged murder has come to light when the Uber driver informed the police about the incident. He stated that a miscreant had booked the cab offline from the Rukminigaon area and loaded a suspicious-looking bag into the trunk of the cab. The driver himself was threatened of dire consequences at gunpoint if he informed the police of the incident.

The accused instructed that the cab driver take him to Kamalpur, where he dumped the luggage deep inside the forest. However, enquiring about the contents of the bag, Das claimed that he had shot a man dead and the body was in the bag. Meanwhile, accused threatened the cab driver to not disclose anything.

Later, the driver dropped the accused off in the city and reached Dispur police station, narrated the whole incident to the police. Following the complaint, the police traced the accused and took him into custody.
