Setback for Raijor Dal? Hiren Gohain quits party

Terming Akhil Gogoi as ‘immature’ Hiren Gohain said that Akhil Gogoi’s final decision goes against his long-standing stance.

Guwahati: In a major setback to newly-floated Raijor Dal, its chief advisor Hiren Gohain has resigned from the party citing differences with Akhil Gogoi who according to him has ‘immature political knowledge’.

Terming Akhil Gogoi as ‘immature’ Gohain said that Akhil Gogoi’s final decision goes against his long-standing stance.

“Congress-AIUDF alliance has been sealed in New Delhi, so Congress cannot break its alliance with the party,” said Gohain.

Eminent literary critic Hiren Gohain, was one of the founding members of the Akhil Gogoi-led party.

In a clearly-worded message, Gohain said: “Since Akhil Gogoi’s final decision goes against my long-standing stance, I hereby shed all my responsibilities as chief advisor of Raijor Dal. Hereafter, I will not be responsible for any of their actions.”

The resignation of the founding member comes after Akhil Gogoi in his letter has openly sought strategic partnership with Congress minus the AIUDF.

Expressing his dissatisfaction over the behavior of Akhil Gogoi, Gohain said, “I am not convinced with Akhil’s remark on AIUDF as a communal party similar to BJP. Even AIUDF leader Ajmal, as of now, have not said or done anything communal.”

“Their party have opposed CAA, accepted the Assam Accord, even they have not participated in the rejection of NRC. From every side I don’t think they will create any problem. So whatever has been said against the party I think it is the work of BJP supporters,” Gohain added.

Lastly Gohain stated that “Due to Akhil’s letter and his decisions, I am bound to quit the party as chief advisor.”
