Guwahati: Internet went crazy when Marvel’s one of the most popular character Thor, Norse god of thunder, himself agreed to give up his weapon, a magical hammer, to gold medalist Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, stating that “she is worthy” on Friday.
Chanu recently clinched India’s first gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. She returned back on Saturday to be welcomed in a grand way at Amritsar airport.
The 27-year-old athlete not only secured India’s first gold medal at the multi-sport event but also set a new Games record as well.
But what came as a surprise from Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth, who acts as Thor, has showered praise on Indian weightlifter. His reaction came after Chanu shared a celebratory tweet which was quoted by a social media user, who also tagged Hemsworth saying, “Time for Thor to give up his hammer Chris Hemsworth.”
Immediately, Hemsworth replied to the tweet thread and wrote: “She is worthy. Congrats, Saikhom, you legend.” Chanu too responded thanking him: “Thank u so much @chrishemsworth Always love to watch you.”
In Marvel comics, Thor’s hammer Mjolnir is a magical weapon which can only be lifted by those who are worthy of it.
