GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Tuesday arrested one of the prime accused in the sub-inspector recruitment scam, Akshay Chand Baid alias Akhiya after he was discharged from a private hospital.
Baid, the owner of Akshay Telecommunications, which was involved in holding the recruitment exam, was undergoing medical treatment at the hospital for weeks.
Immediately after his arrest, CID produced him before the CJM court here and prayed for four days of remand. However, the court citing his ailing health has sent him to judicial custody.
The court has also rejected his bail plea.
Earlier, police and CID raided his Bongaigaon residence and several business establishments of Baid in connection with the SI scam. His Akshay Telecommunication got the sub-contract to print the exam question papers.
Though he was on the run since his name surfaced in the scam, later he was found undergoing treatment at a city hospital. His two other associates—Saroj Sarma and Rubul Hazarika were already arrested.
