Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) President and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, popularly known as PS Golay, has won Poklok Kamrang seat with 10,585 votes. The win has cemented his Chief Minister’s post.
Sikkim Democratic Front’s (SDF) Moses Rai secured 1858 votes, Sikkim Republican Party’s Yadhu Kumar Rai got 125 votes. A total of 76 votes were cast against NOTA, as reported by The Northeast Today.
The by-elections were held in Gangtok, Martam Rumtek and Poklok Kamrang on October 21st, 2019. BJP candidate Sonam Tshering Venchungpa won from Rumtek assembly segment by a margin of 1800 votes.
Counting is underway in Gangtok. A total of five candidates are in the fray for the seat. The ruling SKM has 18 MLAs, BJP has 10 legislators and Sikkim Democratic Front has one MLA in the 32-member Sikkim legislative assembly.
Ending the 24-year rule of the Pawan Kumar Chamling led SDF, Tamang led the SKM to victory in 2019 assembly elections winning 17 out of 32 seats in the legislative assembly.
