Sikkim, Kalimpong cut off after landslide on highway, tourists stranded

Gangtok, September 14: Sikkim was cut off from northern West Bengal’s Siliguri following landslides in both states triggered by heavy overnight rains leaving hundreds of tourists stranded.

After a sizeable potion of NH 10 was washed away on Thursday, Sikkim and West Bengal’s Kalimpong district have been cut off by land from the rest of the country. It may be mentioned that NH 10 is only the connecting link between Sikkim and Kalimpong.

Apart from the tourist vehicles, essentials cargo have remained stranded on either section of  the breached road.

The state government have deployed road menders to restore the link or erect a temporary bridge o allow movement of the cargo loads and evacuation of the stranded tourists.
