    Sikkim reports 97 new cases of Delta variant today

    Out of 98 random samples sent to Kalyani, West Bengal for the test, 97 have been reported to be infected with the delta variant of Covid-19: Sikkim Health Minister

    Guwahati: Sikkim recorded 257 fresh COVID-19 positive cases and with no fatality on Monday. Out of 98 samples, 97 were confirmed as positive for the highly transmissible Delta variant, as per the Health Department.

    The total number of active positive cases is now 2429 with 257 new cases, while the cumulative number of persons who succumbed to COVID-19 in Sikkim stands at 324.

    Speaking to the media, Sikkim Health Minister MK Sharma said, “Genome Sequencing test against 98 random samples were sent at the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani West Bengal.”

    “Out of 98 random samples sent to Kalyani, West Bengal for the test, 97 have been reported to be infected with the delta variant of Covid-19,” added the minister.

    The Health Minister has also urged the people of Sikkim to go for early testing if any symptoms are observed.

    Delta variant accounts for 80% of new COVID-19 cases in the country. The variant is also around 40-60 percent more transmissible than its predecessor, stated the Health Minister.

    This was informed by the Health Minister, Government of Sikkim in a press conference held in the capital city of Gangtok.
