GUWAHATI: Sikkim government has decided to open its door for foreign tourists from next March.
An official notification issued by the Sikkim home department said that Foreigner Registration Office at the Rammam Check post (Jorethang ) will be open for foreign tourists from March 1.
This means now foreign tourist can visit Sikkim directly from Darjeeling side.
With this now Sikkim has a total of three Foreigner Registration Offices. At present Rangpo and Melli check posts only have Foreigner Registration Office.
The notification said, “The Tourism Department has indicated that large numbers of foreign tourist have been requesting for entry through Rarnmam Checkpost at Budang, West Sikkim. Now, therefore, with a view to boost rural, religious and adventure tourism in West and South Sikkim, the State Government has decided to open Rammam Checkpost for entry of foreign tourists w.e.f 1. March 2021.”
The Himalayan state was one of the first to open its door for domestic tourists in October last year. Currently, the state is witnessing heavy snowfall.
