Guwahati: With flight fairs connecting Silchar from Guwahati have reached upto Rs 31,000 after surface transportation in Southern Assam and Barak Valley has got disconnected from the rest of India due to landslides in multiple locations.
Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy took cognizance of the situation earlier and addressed the issue in a tweet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PMO India, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and the Airports Authority of India on May 16.
“With railways & roadways disrupted due to heavy rains and landslides I m stunned to see #silchar-#guwahati airfare reach 31000/- for a 25 min flight for 300 km! This issue of ticket pricing needs to be addressed immediately!” said MP Roy in his tweet.
Later, responding to the tweet, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia informed that Guwahati to Silchar route is subject to a fare cap within 15 days of travel to ensure exorbitant fares are not charged from travellers. “Have ascertained from airlines operating to Silchar that they are adhering to the directions,” said the union minister in his tweet.
The minister also suggested the MP to refer such specific cases to ‘airsewa portal’ to ensure necessary redressal.
