Silchar MLA accused of misappropriation of MGNREGA funds

Silchar, December 6: MLA Dilip Kumar Paul of Silchar has been accused of misappropriation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act(MGNREGA) funds to the tune of Rs 30.55 lakh.

As per the locals an amount of Rs. 30.55 lakh was sanctioned by the Centre for construction of a bridge under the scheme in Bhajantipur village of Silchar constituency and further alleged that as the funds have not been cleared till date the project is still underway.

In the meantime, MLA Paul who had laid the foundation stone of the bride in 2016, denying all the allegations claimed that “not a single penny of the funds sanctioned has been misappropriated till date,”

“The money has been kept in the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA). The money will be withdrawn after the Panchayat polls and after that the contruction works will be started,” said Dilip Paul while addressing media here.

MLA Dilip also said that the fund has been illegally freezed by someone which requires severe investigation.
