SIT to probe murder of Assam Agricultural University student in train

Guwahati/Sivasagar, July 12: A special investigation team (SIT) headed by Additional SP has been constituted by the state police to probe into the sensational murder of Assam Agricultural University student Radha Kumari.

On July 10, the dead body of the 21-year-old student was recovered under mysterious circumstances from the toilet of the Dibrugarh-Rangiya Kamkhya Express when the train halted at the Simaluguri Railway Station.

The incident had led to an uproar in the state. Students’ unions and civil organizations took to the streets demanding justice for the girl and further questioning women’s security inside a train.

Pallov Gopal Jha, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar and Subudh Sonowal, Superintendent of Police of Sivasagar on Wednesday visited the bereaved family and assured all possible help.

One person has been booked by the Sivasagar Police in connection to the case.
