Sonia Gandhi appoints senior observers for poll-bound Assam

The Congress in Assam has been facing a tough time with constantly facing debacles in the state’s local body and council polls

GUWAHATI: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi has appointed three of its senior members including its national secretary Shakeel Ahmad Khan as senior observers for overseeing election campaign management and coordination in Assam where an assembly election is going to be held in 2021

The other two senior observers were Assam Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel and former social justice and empowerment Mukul Wasnik.

AICC said that they will discharge their duties in close coordination with AICC general secretaries and in-charges in the state.

The Congress in Assam has been facing a tough time with constantly facing debacles in the state’s local body and council polls. The Congress was wiped out in the recently held Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls. The party though has been voting for a grand alliance ahead of the ensuing state polls, the decision of alliance was still waiting for a nod from the party’s high command. Already, Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) offered for an alliance with the party before the polls.
