Sonia, Rahul To Lead Congress’s Protest Against CAA At Delhi’s Rajghat On Monday

Congress to stage a 'satyagraha' demanding protection for the Constitution and the rights of people as enshrined in it

Amid nationwide non-stop agitations against the new Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), the Congress will stage a ‘satyagraha’ at Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, on December 23rd, 2019, demanding protection for the Constitution and the rights of people as enshrined in it.

Led by party chief Sonia Gandhi, top leaders of the party including its former president Rahul Gandhi and its General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will participate in the ‘satyagraha dharna’ till the evening.

So far, more than 20 people have died in the protests against the new law since it was signed off by President Ram Nath Kovind on December 12th, 2019.

Massive protests broke out across the country after the Rajya Sabha passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis who have become the victims of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31st, 2014.
