    Sonowal, Himanta, Others Pay Their Rich Tributes To Mighty War Heroes On Kargil Vijay Diwas

    Guwahati: Along with the rest of the country, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other state politicos paid their rich tributes to the grit and valour of those who defended the country during the Kargil war, 1999.

    Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the successful Operation Vijay, is celebrated in India on July 26th every year in honour of the Kargil War Heroes. On this date in 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistan.

    As India is commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Diwas, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal remembering the Bravehearts hailed the sacrifice of the Indian soldiers.

    “As we celebrate the 20th #KargilVijayDiwas, remembering the Bravehearts who fought gallantly and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation. My salute to the brave jawans. Jai Hind” (sic) Sonowal wrote on his Twitter.

    Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid his tribute to the soldiers and saluted the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs.

    Assam Police too honoured the “greatest sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the Nation,”.

    Sharing a photograph of the mighty warriors, star Sprinter Hima Das took to her Twitter handle and made a tribute remembering the sacrifices made to save the nation.

    The president of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev tweeted in a triumphant salute and wrote, “On Kargil Vijay Diwas a moment of remembrance for our soldiers who sacrificed their today for a nation’s tomorrow. Salute to the unparalleled valour of Indian Army”.

    The Kargil war was the first time India and Pakistan got into an armed conflict after claiming nuclear powers.
