Sonowal or Sarma? Delay Lengthens; Crucial meet tomorrow
Guwahati: Assam will have to wait for another day, as the BJP high command is yet to disclose about the next Chief Minister of Assam.
Amid speculation over the CM candidate in Assam, senior BJP leader from the state Himanta Biswa Sarma met party chief J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Saturday. Both Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Sarma were on Friday called to New Delhi by the BJP central leadership, apparently to discuss the leadership issue of the next government.
Though both leaders from Assam reached Delhi on Saturday morning it was Sarma who reached Nadda’s residence to meet him and BJP general secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh, sources said. They were later joined by Amit Shah.
Later, CM Sonawal also reached Nadda’s residence to meet the BJP’s top brass.
In the meanwhile, while interacting with the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “There will be a BJP party meeting in Guwahati on Sunday and the final decision will be taken after the meeting.”
However, there was no media interaction by the present Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal following the party meeting in New Delhi.
Both Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma will be returning back to Guwahati by Saturday evening, informed sources.
Earlier, both the top Assam leaders left for New Delhi from Guwahati in the same chartered flight at 8:00 am.
