Sonowal Requests Bollywood Director Madhur Bhandarkar To Shoot In Assam

Madhur Bhandarkar suggested Sarbananda Sonowal make provision for filmmakers to obtain clearances for shooting their films

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on October 30th, 2019, requested the eminent filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who called on the former today, to shoot in Assam so that the natural beauty can be projected worldwide.

Sonowal informed the filmmaker about the government’s various steps including the State Film Policy, which was recently approved by the State Cabinet, to revive the Assamese film industry. He also assured all cooperation to Bhandarkar.

During the meeting, the CM also informed Bhandarkar that Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for a Film Tourism Policy in the state was being prepared and once finalised it would make Assam one of the attractive destinations for the filmmakers.

The national award-winning filmmaker Bhandarkar, who is in the city for attending the 3rd Guwahati International Film Festival, suggested the CM that a single-window system should be put in place so that filmmakers and producers could obtain necessary clearances and permissions for shooting their films here.

Bhandarkar also stressed on the need to attract other regional film producers from West Bengal or Southern India to visit Assam apart from Bollywood so that artistes and technicians here could find substantive works all year round.
