The General Secretary of AASU, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, charged Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, as he was the first AASU leader, to start the trend of meeting heavyweight Congress leader openly Delhi and also inspired his fellow AASU brigades to imitate his footprint. Calling the allegation against AASU leader Samujjal Bhattacharjee is baseless, false and self-contradictory, he says it was AASU president Sarbananda Sonowal, who dragged the sleeve of his subordinate Samujjal Bhattacharjee, to visit Sonia Gandhi personally at some public gathering in Delhi decades ago. Criticizing Assam Chief Minister for falsifying the truth he says that, in that particular visit to Congress Supremo, it was the Sarbananda who designed the planning to visit Sonia Gandhi, none else. He further says that now Sarbananda Sonowal is pretending as if he has forgotten his own initiative, which set a new history.

Ridiculing the futile effort of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, for maligning the image of AASU, he says that it was an open policy of AASU to visit Rahul Gandhi and leaders all national political parties. Further, he informed that in order to create common consensus among the political parties, in order to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, AASU along with NESO people visited all major political parties like Samajbadi, BJD, JDU, SP, AIADMK, and Hindu Nationalist Shiv Sena at Delhi. Going beyond the limit, ASSU people visited even talked to CPI and CPI (M) delegates to take a firm stand against the bill in Rajya Sabha. It was learnt that AASU was ethically against the CPI & CPM during six years long Assam Agitation.

Lurin Jyoti further says that this time AASU took a stern step to meet the national leaders, as Sarbananda lead government was pushing the fate of Assamese nationalism into great uncertainty. Being chief minister who in past nourished his political career on the podium of All Assam Student Union (AASU) is now completely ignoring the impending dark future of Assamese people, where Assamese speaking people shall be the minority in the state, he alleged.

Reacting Chief Minister’s observation that AASU is losing its affability, he says that it was the Sarbananda who lost public decorum first while he allowed his party men to stamp on the flag of AASU in Nalbari. At least, former President Sarbananda Sonwal should not forget the contribution of AASU in the building of his political career.

Rejecting Chief Minister’s allegation that “AASU” was adapting violent method in order to stage protest he says that BJP and its allied outfits were now formed militia to crush the Assamese Sentiment and its future security. Citing example the General Secretary of AASU says that, in Nalbari arrested AASU members were hit by BJP backed goons inside the police custody, and Sarbananda Sonowal who was in charge of Home Ministry keeping silent even witnessing hooliganism of his party people.

General Secretary, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi today, in a huge public rally on Thursday, at Duliajan, staged protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in Upper Assam retreated, that All Assam Student Union would always fight for the interest of indigenous people of the state as well as for the northeast. AASU would never back away from the constitutional responsibility if the life and property of the people are in stake, he said.
