GUWAHATI: “Sonowal will remain my Neta always”: Himanta Biswa Sarma after selected as new Assam CM
“He has been our Neta (leader) and he will be our leader in the future too,” said Assam’s next chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday as he was chosen to lead the NDA alliance paving his way to take charge of Dispur.
Terming Sonowal as a big brother, Sarma applauded the outgoing chief minister and said that it was under his able leadership that Sarma had learnt the lessons of politics of ‘high moral value’.
“Sonowal’s way of politics and the way he served for uplifting the Assamese community throughout the last five years have inspired me every time. The way he had trusted and entrusted me with responsibilities, was no short of a lesson for me. I learned how to love serving the people of the state and to work for all communities across Brahmaputra and Barak valley for their equal development,” Sarma said after being declared as the next state CM by the alliance.
Sarma promised that he would take try his best to take the legacy of Sonowal forward in the coming days and would always seek his guidance.
He said, “It was in Sonowal’s regime that the historic Bodo accord was signed, peace was restored in Karbi hills area. It was due to Sonowal’s way of functioning that the people of the state have loved the government so much without any question. I promise to do my best to take his work forward and express my heart full gratitude to him.”
He also thanked the people of the state and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah for believing in him.
Sarma to take oath as the 15 th chief minister of Assam at a swearing-in ceremony to be held at city’s Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakhetra.
