Sonowal’s cabinet expansion on discussions again

Guwahati/Kokrajhar, July 30: The topic of cabinet expansion of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance government has once again come upon discussions but the question still arises whether the expansion will take place this time or will this be another hoax. The expansion will reportedly take place by August 15 after the visit of Amit Shah, Party’s President to the state. It has also been reported that one minister may be dropped from the post.

It must be noted that the government has completed almost 14 months in power but there is still a vacancy of eight ministers.

The BJP had announced about the expansion during many occasions ,however, till date no expansion have been seen.
Reacting to the announcement that the expansion of the ministry will be held by August 15 where some new faces will be introduced, Hagrama Mohilary, BTC Chief and President, Bodoland People’s Front expressed that he doesn’t know when the cabinet expansion will take place but he knows that BPF will be given another ministerial berth in the expansion.

Emmanuel Mosahary, BPF’s MLA from Tamulpur, said “The expansion needs to be completed as soon as possible. Since there are so many vacancies it has left a negative impact in the State.” He stated that some of the departments are also working very slow.

On being asked if BPF’s alliance with the BJP was a right decision, Mosahary added that BJP is much stronger than BPF and so they are ahead of the BPF. “We demand immediate cabinet expansion of the vacant posts”, he added.

Talking to TIME8, Ripun Bora, President, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee had termed the Sonowal Government as a failure as the government has not been able to fill up the vacant seats even after a year.

“The vacant posts are a loss to the State Administration, as efficiency of the administration has turned to be very weak. The ministers are taking additional burden by holding multiple posts which ultimately has affected the development of the state” he added.

Bora added that Sarbananda Sonowal is under pressure and the expansion dates are being manipulated by the high command. “Interestingly, BJP-led Government has two high commands, one is the Delhi BJP high command while the other is the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.”
