He further appealed all the ethnic organizations of the state to come forward and raise voice for an error-free NRC. “I would like to appeal to the ethnic organizations of the state to come forward so that the genuine Indians’ names get to include in the list,” Hazarika said. He also urged the government for inclusion of all the bonafide Indian citizens’ names in the list.
Hazarika further said that many people belonging to the Gorkha community missed their names in the final list. “There is a big population of Nepali people in Sootea constituency. Many people of the constituency missed their names in the final list. The community is also an integral part of the greater Assamese community,” Hazarika said.
Slamming the state coordinator for NRC, Assam Prateek Hajela, Hazarika said, “Hajela kept the government away from the NRC updation procedure. He did not allow the government to interfere in the matter. So, he cannot blame the government now.”
The former Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader also slammed the former three-time Assam CM Tarun Gogoi and said, “The NRC is not a waste paper like Tarun Gogoi said.”
The MLA further said the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal succeeded in maintaining law and order in the state. “It was a peaceful situation across the state ahead of the publication of the final NRC and after the publication.”
The Assam government had released the final NRC on August 31st, 2019. A total of 3,11,21,004 persons were found eligible for inclusion leaving out 19,06,657 persons including those who did not submit claims.
