Guwahati: Portugal captain and one of the biggest football stars Christiano Ronaldo has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. This was revealed by the Portuguese soccer federation on Tuesday, which reported the attacker’s absence in the match against Sweden, in the League of Nations.
According to the federation, Ronaldo is well and is showing no symptoms. He is in isolation and it has been learnt that the COVID-19 test was carried out recently as a preparation ahead of Portugal’s clash with Sweden.
The federation also confirmed that the 35-year-old has now left Portugal’s training camp. Ronaldo will begin a period of self-isolation and his health will closely be monitored.
Ronaldo’s results prompted another round of tests for the rest of the Portugal squad. It is said that everyone else in the team tested negative.
The ace footballer played in the 0-0 draw at France in the Nations League on Sunday, and also in the 0-0 draw against Spain in a friendly match last week.
The five time Ballon d’Or winner Christiano Ronaldo, is likely to miss Juventus’ Serie A match at Crotone on Saturday and the team’s Champions League opener at Dynamo Kyiv next Tuesday. And depending on his condition and the results of the future tests, he could also miss the much-anticipated match against Barcelona on October 28.
