State, National leaders greet people on Good Friday
Guwahati: Good Friday, one of the most important holidays celebrated by the Christians on the Friday before Easter Sunday, is held in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.
On the occasion, leaders from across Northeastern states greeted the people and most of them conveyed their greetings through Twitter.
Highlighting the values of ‘humanity, compassion, forgiveness and goodness’, Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma greeted the people of the occasion.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma reminded about ‘God’s unfailing love’.
Remembering the sacrifice of Jesus Chirst, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio wished the people on Good Friday.
Apart from the state leaders, the national-level leader has also conveyed their greetings to the people.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took twitter to greet the people. He wrote: “Let this Good Friday be a reminder of the power of compassion, love and empathy.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first to convey his wishes.
The celebration of Good Friday dates back to the 4th Century. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday.
