Guwahati: At least four people were arrested for allegedly stealing the golden holy book from Luguthang monastery in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, official informed.

The four accused were arrested from Meragoh village in the district.

The golden scripture, which carries historical significance, was stolen on April 29 from Luguthang monastery, official stated. Luguthang is one the remotest villages in Tawang.

After receipt of a written complaint from one Tsering Chombey, the district police, led by Jang police station officer in-charge, Pema Wangchu, launched an investigation and arrested the four persons.

“The four accused were arrested and the stolen property was recovered from the Meragoh village after a 9-hour trek,” said police.

“During interrogation, they revealed that they had stolen the holy book (Ser Choi) from Luguthang Gonpa and had hidden it at a place near Luguthang village,” official added.

Further investigation is underway and details are awaited.
