Hundreds of students from various universities of Delhi are holding protest over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act ever since the last week.

However, amid the chaos, images and videos capturing a glimpse of humanity and harmony went viral on social media. The photographs and videos showing a group of protesters presenting red roses to the Delhi police personnel are winning hearts on social media.

Ever since the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill became law after the Rajya Sabha passed it on December 11th, 2019, the country has been witnessing non-stop protests by students and people from all quarters of life. The demonstrations turned violent too at several places including Assam resulting in loss of lives and public properties worth several crores.

As the protests against the new citizenship continued in the national capital, the protesters on December 19th, 2019 offered roses to security personnel at the Jantar Mantar saying that their message is ‘love in return for hatred’ while adding that the police can lathi-charge them as much as they want.

Similar scenes were witnessed on December 20th, 2019 too. The students including the ones from the Jamia Millia Islamia University were seen offering red roses to the men in khaki which they accepted.

An image of a girl giving a single red rose to a policeman has created quite a stir online. With words of praise, several people shared their comments online about the image of the girl.

Another photograph of a group of young protestors offering roses to police personnel during a demonstration against the act at Delhi’s Mandi House also garnered a humongous positive response.

One more overwhelming incident was reported in Jamia on December 19th, 2019 which reminded people of the country’s unity in diversity in these times of crisis. As the protesting students offered Friday prayers (namaz) in front of the varsity gate, the people from other communities formed a human chain to guard them against being disturbed by the moving traffic or public.
