Guwahati: Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia was on Sunday sworn in as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.
Acting chief justice N Kotiswar Singh administered him the oath of office at Darbar Hall of Raj Bhawan in Guwahati.
The Union Law Ministry on January 7 notified the appointment of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia as the new Chief Justice of Gauhati HC.
With Justice Dhulia’s appointment as chief justice of the Gauhati high court, all the 25 high courts in the country now have regular chief justices.
Earlier, Justice Dhulia was a judge in Uttarakhand High Court. Dhulia started as an advocate in 1986 and practised in the Allahbad High Court, specialising in constitutional and Service matters.
The government has maintained that the appointment of judges in the high courts is a ‘continuous collaborative process’ between the executive and the judiciary, as it requires consultation and approval from various constitutional authorities.
