Guwahati: In a major operation, the sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau arrested the Superintendent of Excise in Tinsukia, Manshjyoti Das for allegedly accepting and taking bribe.
Another person identified as Arjun Basfore, office peon (off-roll employee) of the same office was also taken into custody.
As per sources, a team of 11 ACB officials laid a trap in Tinsukia and arrested the duo red-handed while they were accepting the bribe.
“A complaint was lodged with ACB alleging that Das and through his accomplish Arjun Basfore were demanding Rs 2000 from wine shops (both ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’) owners in Tinsukia every month.”
Sources informed that both the accused persons will be taken to Guwahati where they shall be produced before the special court on Friday.
Meanwhile, the sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau have conducted a search operation at his residence in Tinsukia and seized a cash amount of Rs 3 lakh 91 thousand.
The team also recovered several other important documents from the spot.
Earlier, Special DGP Assam, GP Singh took to Twitter saying, “A trap has been successfully laid at Tinsukia and apprehended 1) Shri Manshjyoti Das, Supdt of Excise Tinsukia 2) Shri Arjun Basfore (off-roll employee) of same office, while accepting bribe money. Further, search is continuing.”
