Supreme Court dismisses plea seeking cancellation of class 10, 12 offline exams

Guwahati: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea seeking cancellation of offline exams for class 10 and class 12 to be conducted by all State Boards, CBSE, ICSE and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

A bench comprising of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar dismissed the petition observing that it was “ill-advised and premature” as the authorities are yet to take decision regarding the conduct of exams.

Earlier, a writ petition was hiled in the top court a few days ago on behalf of schools students protesting against the decision of conducting offline exams under the CBSE, ICSE NIOS, and several other such education boards in states.

The plea was filed by Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, an advocate and child rights activist, along with the Students Union of Odisha-NYCS as the second petitioner.

The petition, apart from asking for a notification regarding an alternate mode of assessment, has also sought constitution of a committee for deciding the formula of assessment of students including compartment students and declaring their results within a time limit.
