Two suspected Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) were killed in a gun fight with the Assam Police and Indian Army in Karbi Anglong on Friday.
ADGP (Law & Order) GP Singh on his twitter handle said, “After an exchange of fire this morning between terrorists belonging to DNLA and a joint team of Assam Police and Indian Army in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, two DNLA terrorists have been declared dead and one AK Series Rifle, one M-16 Rifle and ammunition have been recovered.”
The police carried out the operation based on specific inputs and recovered several weapons from the incident site and process to identify the cadres are on.
The DNLA earlier this week threatened to stop coal mining in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts.
In a statement, they said, “Coal is a non-renewable resource and its mining causes disaster. Its transportation damages roads in our tribal areas. We should preserve the natural resources instead of allowing mining in our area.”
The organisation further asked the government and organisations engaged in coal mining to stop mining immediately and withdraw all work-force within a week.
They claimed that if there “order” was not followed, they will be complied to take merciless action.
