One suspected United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) cadre was apprehended by a joint team of Army and Assam Police on Monday.
The suspected cadre has been identified as Arup Hazarika who was arrested based on the revelation of previously apprehended suspected cadres namely Rantu Sonowal and Bitupan Sonowal. These two alleged that Arup Hazarika was involved in many ULFA-I “sponsored” activities. The activities Arup was accused of being involved include recruitment of new cadres and hoisting of ULFA-I flags in Joypur and Naharkatia.
Based on these inputs as source information about his location a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and Police.
The joint team during the operation succeeded in apprehending the suspected for his residence in Nagaghat and further search in and around his house with the help of Army dogs lead to the recovery of one 0.22mm Pistol with a magazine and two rounds.
The Army in a statement said that during the preliminary interrogation, the individual confessed his involvement in recruiting youths to join the banned outfit. He claimed to have been working directly under Self Style Lieutenant Abhijeet Gogoi alias Aiseng Asom.
