Symbolic Funeral for Lakhimpur Girl who Died in Delhi of COVID-19

The girl passed away at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in Delhi

Guwahati: Family members of Sonia Deuri, a girl from Assam’s Lakhimpur who died in New Delhi due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have carried out her last rights in a symbolic way as they could not visit Delhi due to the ongoing pandemic.

Deuri’s family members were informed that since their daughter had died due to the virus, her cremations will be carried out by the concerned authorities and also, there was an issue that they could not visit Delhi in such a short notice. Her family so decided to carry out the funeral in a symbolic way.

They used a photograph of her during the funeral and carried out every ritual related to the funeral with the photograph.

It may be mentioned that on Wednesday it was reported that a girl from Assam died in Delhi due to the virus. She was a resident of Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district and she had been working in a private institution for the past 12 years.

She died at the AIIMS trauma centre on Wednesday.
