The incident took place in Margherita’s Segunbari area in the district.
The issue of rampant illegal coal mining in the Margherita, Ledo, and Lekaphani areas in the Tinsukia district came to light once again on Tuesday when a coal-laden truck met with an accident in the area.
The deceased person allegedly worked for the coal mafia identified as Prabin Tanti of the Ledo Tea Estate, sources said.
During the storm, several houses and properties were damaged. People are seeking refuge in government offices and schools, official claimed.

A woman was killed and her husband was left injured when a truck hit their scooter at Margherita in Tinsukia district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when a herd of wild elephant came from the forest at around 4 am and entered a village destroying several houses.
The lady identified as Puja Moran, 23-years-old, residents from Margherita of Tinsukia district.
Police has also recovered Rs 89,000 cash amount including gambling materials from the accused’s possession.
