    Taiwan building inferno kills 46, wounds over 40

    An investigation is underway to find the cause of the massive fire. Arson has not been ruled out as one of the reasons behind the tragedy.

    Guwahati: At least 46 people lost their lives and another 41 sustained injuries as a fire raged through a 13-storey, mixed-use building in Taiwan Thursday.

    The Government said the fire incident took place in the southern city of Kaohsiung.

    The building located in Kaohsiung’s Yancheng district was 40 years old. The fire started in the early hours of Thursday and it was extinguished by firefighters around dawn only after multiple floors has been ravaged.

    Reportedly, the city’s fire department informed that it has sent more than 70 trucks to tackle the blaze. They also said that the flames burned most intensely where a lot of clutter has been piled up.

    Most of the deaths occurred on floors seven to 11, which housed residential apartments, fire officials said.

    An investigation is underway to find the cause of the massive fire. Arson has not been ruled out as one of the reasons behind the tragedy.

    Forensics teams are on the job and more searches of the building will be carried out as a part of the investigation.
