GUWAHATI: Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s ashes will travel all over the state.
After performing the cremation rituals on Thursday, his son and MP Gaurav Gogoi said that the former chief minister wanted to visit his hometown Titabor in Jorhat district and all over the state before he died.
His last rites were performed with full state honours at Nabagraha crematorium. Tarun Gogoi died of multple organ failure on Monday.
Gogoi said, “When he was in his last stage, he said that he wanted to travel all over the state and as a son and family I will complete his unfinished dream. His ashes will be taken from the Brahmaputra to Barak valley, from places in lower to upper Assam everywhere.”
He added that he was not sad but at peace. “I am not sad. My soul feels peace. The way the people of Assam have showered their love for my father is overwhelming and indescribable. I am sure his soul will reach its ultimate destination,” he added.

Lakhs hit the city streets earlier on Thursday to pay their tribute to the departing soul.
Gogoi also informed that the former chief minister also wanted to address a press conference for the final time.
“It’s inevitable. Today he may not be with us and I am sure his principles, ideas, visions and teachings will live always. They will always be ‘Tarun’ (young) and he will live forever,” the bereaved son added.
